Social Issue: The father in the books gets into a car crash and his daughter Theresa take it very personal. She doesn’t get into a relationship because she wants to spend time with her dad but she realizes that she needs to have fun and go out.
1. The main character in the book Fighting the Current is Theresa. Theresa is a type of girl who puts other before herself. When her dad gets into the car crash she worries about him a lot. Theresa likes to be caring for others, openly about her feelings, and likes to change for the better.
2. In the beginning of the story Tee meets a new friends at school named Ethan. Tee tells Ethan about her parents divorce and about her dad getting into a car crash.
a. In the middle of the story Theresa goes to a school dance with her ex boyfriend and regrets it. She dances with Ethan her new friends from school and likes it. Later on Tee and Ethan date but Theresa’s Aunt George dies in a house fire.
b. In the end of the story Ethan fixes up the canoe Theresa and her dad were going to go on before he go into the crash. Tee gives the canoe to her dad for a Christmas present and he doesn’t like it. Tee ends up going away to figure things out with herself.
3. In this story the author describes to us how effects on characters change life because Tee is really emotional with the whole car accident, which makes her worry about her dad, and doesn’t do anything for her. Ethan another character finds that h has feelings for Tee and brakes up with his girlfriend and comes to Tee.4. Three ways the issue effects the character is Tee is very sad with her dad getting into the accident. She doesn’t want to live with her mother. She goes out on the new canoe and almost dies.
5. Two events that make the books social issue seem important and real are when Ethan fixes the canoe for Tee to give back to her dad and the dad doesn’t want it. Another event I when Theresa realizes that she needs to figure things in her life out.
